Etsy and Women in Art

Red Jasper necklace

I've often been asked if I sell my jewelry online, and now I'm pleased to say I do! I've recently opened a store on etsy.com. So far I only have a few things listed, but will keep adding to the inventory. Take a look—go to www.sleepycatstudio.etsy.com. It's been fun photographing the pieces in interesting places—like out in the woods where there's a beautiful mossy log which makes a great background. I have to be careful photographing pieces outside when the chickens are around—they're attracted to the shiny baubles! I can just imagine turning my back for a moment, then turning back to see retreating but fabulously decked out hens—showing off their finery to the ducks.

Other news—I'm so proud to have been accepted into the Women in Art market at the Eiteljorg Museum, in Indianapolis. The market will take place March 15th, 10AM–5PM, in the beautiful setting of the Eiteljorg—one of my favorite museums ever! I'll have a wide selection of brand new jewelry, as well as small paintings, and my hand painted wooden bookmarks. In honor of the Women in Art theme I'm working on a series of bookmarks picturing women—one is a lady painting, another is a gardener, etc. Many of the ladies are accompanied by a friendly feline—there's even a mermaid with a catfish! Hope to see you there!

This One's For Ewe--Groovy Gala donation

This One's for Ewe

This is the painting I'm donating to the silent auction at the Groovy Gala, which is a major fundraiser for the Bloomington Montessori School. The painting is 11X14, acrylic on canvas, and is a sunny pastoral view of sheep on a farm in southern Indiana. The gala will be held at 5:30PM, Saturday, February 23rd at Terry's Banquets and Catering—3124 Canterbury Ct, Bloomington, Indiana. 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Bloomington Montessori School. The Groovy Gala is the centerpiece of the year long celebration, featuring a retro-themed evening complete with music from the 60's and 70's, as well as dinner and a silent auction. Tickets are $65 each or a table of eight is available for $500. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the school at (812) 336-2800.

Cat of the Month 02/08: Cricket

Cricket Photo

Cricket is the Cat of the Month for February. She's seventeen, a chocolate brown black; with a tiny white spot and beautiful green eyes.

Cricket
Cricket is the alpha cat in the household—if another cat is sleeping in a coveted sunny spot she can cause him or her to vamoose with just a glare from those green eyes. She's fairly independent—doesn't like to be picked up and generally is not a lap cat. But she has her spot on the bed where she sleeps every night. She likes to be talked to and the words "Pretty Girl" can start her purring loudly.

New stuff

6x6 paintings
I've been working on a series of small paintings done in a more whimsical style. The wide gallery-wrapped canvases are painted gold on the sides and sizes range from 5x5 inches to 12x12 inches. One series is of foxes in the different seasons of the year, another is of stylized cats sleeping on fancy pillows. I'm also working on small landscape paintings. I think these smaller pieces will be fun to bring to shows—easier to pack and also I want to create art that is more affordable to a wide range of people.

Snow Shadows ptg
I've been doing other paintings too—a snow scene which I may do another version of as a horizontal, and our farm house on laundry day. It's titled "Monday at Myrtle's" because Monday is wash day and Myrtle was the lady who lived here before we did. The misty hay bales in the morning light is one of my favorite subjects. Each year in late summer, I look forward to the hay being mowed and baled. The arrangement of the bales is always different and the landscape is so interesting with these huge bales scattered across it. Early morning and late evening create some pretty wonderful effects with light and shadow.
